Short Bus
Filter (1995)
The debut album from post-grunge band Filter was released thirty years ago today. Its opening track, which peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100, has been misreported for many years as being inspired by the death of Kurt Cobain. In reality, the song was written in 1991 and was inspired by the suicide of Pennsylvania treasurer R Budd Dwyer, which was broadcast on television at the end of his final press conference.
I wish I would've met youNow it's a little lateWhat you could've taught meI could've saved some faceThey think that your early endingWas all wrongFor the most part, they're rightBut look how they all got strongThat's why I say Hey man, nice shotGood shot, manA man has gunHey man, have funNice shotNow that the smoke's goneAnd the air is all clearThose who were right thereGot a new kind of fearYou'd fight and you were rightBut they were just too strongThey'd stick it in your faceAnd let you smell what they consider wrongThat's why I say Hey man, nice shotGood shot, manA man has gunHey man, have funNice shotI wish I would have met youI'd say Nice shot
