Drugs In The 80's

Rea & Derick shopping cart
Wyoming Valley Mall - Wilkes Barre, PA
We saw this shopping cart in the candy aisle at CVS in the Wyoming Valley Mall.  It must be one that the store keeps in the back and uses when they're stocking shelves, because it was filled with boxes of Halloween candy and other merchandise that they were putting out.  The Rea & Derick logo on the baby seat caught my eye.

My grandmother started worked at the Rea & Derick drug store in Hazleton in the 50's shortly after she graduated from high school, and she still worked there in the late 80's when I was a kid.  Ownership of the chain changed hands a few times in the 80's and 90's, and all of the former Rea & Derick stores were converted to CVS stores by 1995.  In all likelihood, the last baby to be pushed around by his or her parents in this shopping cart has just graduated from high school this year.
