The Original Schwarburger

The Schwarburger
Yards Brewing Company - Philadelphia, PA
Last month at Citizens Bank Park, I had the opportunity to try a tasty burger named after the Phillies designated hitter.  It was called the Schwarburger 2.0, and although it was very good, I was curious to know what the 1.0 version was like.  We spent a little time on Sunday wandering around to look for something to eat before the Echo & The Bunnymen concert at the old Electric Factory when we found the Yards Brewing Company where I got to try the original.

Take this side-by-side comparison with a grain of salt.  I was pretty hungry so I didn't fool around too long trying to take a perfect photo of The Schwarburger from the brewery, and the photo of the Schwarburger 2.0 has the benefit of having been taken in the sunlight of Ashburn Alley.

There are more differences between the two than the location where they're sold:
  • The original Schwarburger is a bacon cheeseburger that's topped with with smoked chili cheddar cheese, a giant onion ring, and barbecue sauce and it's served on a Merzbacher roll.
  • I'm not sure what kind of bun they use at Citizens Bank Park for the Schwarburger 2.0.  It's also a bacon cheeseburger, but the sequel is topped with a fried egg, dill pickles, crispy onions, and a spicy sauce.
Both burgers were very tasty.  If I had to pick a winner, it would be the one I had yesterday at Yard's Brewing Company.  I'll bet a hybrid of the two with a fried egg inside of the giant onion ring would be pretty great though!
